Built 3000 years ago, they have been for centuries the greatest source of livelihood for the inhabitants of the island, who mostly extracted magnetite, the mineral with the highest iron content that can be used in industry.
The mines of Capoliveri, Calamita, del Ginevro are accessible by families and on site it is possible to book tours and guided tours.
They are arranged one after the other along the Via dei Minatori, an uncontaminated path among the naturalistic beauties of the island.
A must is a visit to the Museum of the Workshop where the typical scenarios of the ancient mines are re-proposed, within a rich and interesting educational path. A truly original place to bring your children or to go to rediscover an authentic and sincere past.
